If you entered the United States with a non-immigrant visa, you may be eligible to change your status to another non-immigrant status. For example, tourists may be able to change their status to students. Students may be able to change their status to tourist, and so on.
It is important that you submit your application to change your non-immigrant status while your current status is valid. You should also be mindful of what you are and are not allowed to do while your change of status is in process.
When you apply to change your status, you must submit all applicable fees and supporting evidence. You will also have to appear for a biometrics interview before USCIS can make a decision on your application.
Once your change of status is approved, USCIS will send you an approval notice with an I-94 record.
